Dr. Shawnta Anakwah was born and raised in Sylacauga, AL. She graduated valedictorian with a major in chemistry/premed at Stillman College, Tuscaloosa AL. She attended Medical School at the University of South Alabama, Mobile. Dr. Anakwah completed residency at Baptist Health Systems in Birmingham, AL and completed her fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science in Rochester, MN.
Dr. Anakwah brings to us ten years of experience from the Phoebe Cancer Center in Georgia, but her heart lies in Alabama where her family, especially her mother and grandmother reside to give her kids the wholesome family upbringing she had. Dr. Anakwah has been with Hematology Oncology Associates of Alabama (HOAA) for nearly three years but is excited to be joining Alabama Cancer Care.
Dr. Anakwah loves her new home in Gadsden and the surrounding areas. She would like to make this her forever home and enjoy quality time with her extended family. She is the mother of two beautiful boys ages five and three and wants to raise them in Gadsden where she feels at home the most. In her spare time, Dr. Anakwah enjoys hosting events/BBQs and lake time with family and she attends New Destiny Church regularly.
“My passion is allowing God to use me to serve the patients of Gadsden and surrounding areas; my special interest is in breast cancer but experience in all cancer types and blood disorders inspires me. Giving back to the community through donations, presentations and preventative care/cancer awareness and volunteering is where my heart is.”
Dr. Anakwah has experience in collaborating closely with doctors at UAB, MD Anderson, and Emory and keeping up with progressive medicine. Dr. Anakwah enjoys her field of Medical Hematology/Oncology and looks forward to working with the Alabama Cancer Care team to give the best and most innovative care to our patients.
